Chat with your database: connect PostgreSQL, MySQL or MongoDB

Your numbers often live in a database, not a spreadsheet. Connect it, pick the tables you want to share and ask questions in plain English.

Key takeaways

  • Connect a PostgreSQL, MySQL (or MariaDB) or MongoDB database from Settings, under Integrations.
  • You choose which tables or collections are shared. Columns that look private are left out.
  • Every plan can try it. The number of rows you can bring in grows with your plan.
  • Enterprise adds a private tunnel to your network and live answers straight from your database.

Why connect a database

Most teams keep their best data in a database. Orders, sign-ups and usage all sit there. To see it in a chart, you ask an engineer for an export, or you wait for a report.

With a database connection, you skip that wait. You connect once. Then you ask a question and get a chart on your canvas.

What you can connect

  • PostgreSQL. This includes hosted ones such as Supabase.
  • MySQL and MariaDB.
  • MongoDB. This includes MongoDB Atlas.

Already have data in a file or a sheet? You can still use those too. See how to chat with Google Sheets.

Connect in four steps

  1. An owner or admin opens Settings, then Integrations, then Databases, and adds a connection. Each field has a help icon with examples for your type of database.
  2. Press Test connection. You see right away whether it works, before you save anything.
  3. Choose which tables or collections to share.
  4. Editors in your workspace pick a table, look at a preview, and import it. Then ask your first question.

If your database only accepts visitors from approved addresses, add the addresses we show you to its allow list first. Then the test will pass.

You stay in control

  • You choose what is shared. Only the tables or collections you pick can be browsed.
  • Private columns are left out. Columns that look sensitive, such as passwords or card numbers, are kept out. Sensitive values in text are hidden.
  • We only read. DashboardGPT never changes your database, and each read has a time limit.
  • You decide who sees it. Only workspaces you give access to can use a connection.

Need to use your own query? You can write one, for example to join two tables. It is checked so that it cannot reach columns that were left out.

Limits by plan

Every plan can connect a database, including the free trial. What grows with your plan is the size of each import, the number of connections and the number of times you can press Sync now.

  • Trial: 1 connection, up to 1,000 rows per import, 5 syncs during the trial.
  • Explore: 1 connection, up to 1,000 rows, 5 syncs a month.
  • Team: 3 connections, up to 50,000 rows, 20 syncs a month.
  • Enterprise: 10 connections, up to 100,000 rows, 50 syncs a month.

Your data is a copy from the moment you import it. Press Sync now when you want fresh numbers. The sync card shows how many you have left.

For Enterprise teams

  • Private network access. If your database has no public address, connect through your own jump host. You allow one key that we give you, and only its public half is shown.
  • Faster updates. After the first import, a sync can bring in just the new and changed rows.
  • Live answers. The assistant can ask your database directly, so answers are current. If that is not possible, it uses your last import and tells you why.

No. It only reads, and each read has a time limit.

You can narrow the import with filters, or bring in the most recent rows. The data is marked as partial so nobody mistakes it for the full set.

Not yet. Press Sync now to refresh it. Each plan has a number of syncs, and a sync that fails does not use one up.
