Add data from Google Analytics

Turn a Google Analytics 4 report into a dataset that stays up to date.

1Open Datasets and choose “Add from Google Analytics”.
2Choose the GA4 property, then a ready-made report or “Custom report” to pick your own dimensions and metrics.
3Choose the date range and how often it refreshes, name the dataset and choose “Create dataset”.
4The first sync starts at once. Ask questions, build charts and publish them to Superset as with any dataset.

Tips

The button appears once an owner or admin has connected Google Analytics and allowed this workspace to use it.
Data older than 13 months is left out. Hourly refresh is available on the Enterprise plan.
Open the dataset to see when it last synced, sync it now or change its refresh schedule.
If a sync fails, the data from the last successful sync stays in use.
Syncs count against a monthly allowance, shown as “Google Analytics syncs” on the Usage page. Once it is used up, refreshes pause until next month.
After the first sync, a refresh fetches only the last few days again and keeps the rest, so it is quick.
Questions the synced data can’t answer, like unique users for a month or dates before the synced range, are asked of Google Analytics directly. Those answers show as a table marked “Live from Google Analytics”, without a chart.
